Inspiration For Our Varieties
Sea Salt & Kent
With 350 miles of coastline, Kent has an ancient relationship with the sea. Sites such as Seasalter, a village on the dramatic wind swept marshes of the north coast of Kent, between Whitstable and Faversham, were an important centre for the production of salt, most probably dating back to the Iron Age.
Whitstable & Oysters
Kent is famous for its oysters, which have been collected in the area around Whitstable since at least Roman times. The town itself dates back to before the writing of the Domesday Book. Whitstable’s distinctive character is popular with tourists, and its maritime heritage is celebrated with the annual oyster festival. Freshly caught shellfish are available throughout the year at several award winning seafood restaurants and pubs in the town.
Smoked Chipotle Chilli
Made with real Chipotle (Smoked Jalapeno) Chillies. Created a wonderful smokey flavour leaving you with a chilli kick. Steve our Chilli farmer is delighted to supply classic Chipotle Chillies from Kent Chilli Farm with love.
Roast Beef & Spitfire Ale
Award-winning Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale is made by Britain’s oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame in Faversham, Kent. Spitfire Ale is a licensed partner of the RAF and has raised more than £300,000 for forces veterans’ charities since 1991. Its characteristically Kentish hoppy flavour makes it a firm favourite with beer lovers.
Ashmore Farmhouse Cheese is made near Canterbury. It is made with vegetarian rennet and is hand made with very little automation.
It is made in a cheddar style and after milling is wrapped in muslin and pressed for 2 days in the old 19th Century presses.
After pressing the cheeses are unwrapped and placed “nude”(!) on aged pine shelves in the maturing room for at least 5 months. Each cheese is turned and stroked daily.
Ashmore cheese is made in different sizes 500g – 1kg truckles and 2kg and 4kg wheels and are available at different stages of maturity and in smoked, blue, goats, fresh, garlic and chilli versions.
Biddenden Vineyard is Kent’s oldest commercial vineyard, having been established by the Barnes family in 1969. The vineyards are set in 22 acres on a gentle south facing slope in a shallow sheltered valley, 1.2 miles from the lovely Wealden village of Biddenden.
Traditional Kentish ciders have also been made here for over 20 years together with farm pressed apple juices.
The vineyards were established by the Barnes family in 1969. Starting with one acre the vineyards has grown to 22 acres with nine varieties of grapes grown. Set on a gentle south facing slope in a shallow sheltered valley, ideal conditions for vines. Predominantly German varieties are grown including Ortega, Huxelrebe, Bacchus.
